Themba Phiri assumed the role of Executive Head of Regulatory Affairs at Cell C Limited in 2017. Themba’s commitment to public service extends beyond corporate roles. In 2021, he served as a Member of the Board of the State Information Technology Agency. Additionally, he holds director positions at the Number Portability Company (NPC-2020 and 2022) and 3C Telecommunications. From 2009 to 2015, he served as Deputy Director-General (DDG) in the former Department of Communications, overseeing legislative amendments, ICT policy reviews, and policy development initiatives. In 2012, he acted as CEO of the Universal Service and Access Agency (USAASA).

Themba has extensive international experience, representing South Africa at various telecommunications forums and engagements worldwide. He has participated in conferences and meetings hosted by organisations such as the International Telecommunications Union, World Intellectual Property Organisation, and SADC ICT Ministerial meetings. Notably, he has attended high-profile events, including the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, the World Telecommunication and Standardisation Assembly, and the World Summit on Information Society.

Appointed as a non-executive director of Sentech in December 2021, Themba Phiri brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of telecommunications policy and regulation to the board. His leadership ensures Sentech remains at the forefront of innovation and compliance in the dynamic telecommunications landscape.
