Cheque Handover at King Williams Town Children's Home
On Thursday, 12 November 2009 Sentech management and staff from the East London Transmission Control Centre handed over a R10 000 cheque to the King Williams Town Children’s Home. These proceeds were as a result of the Company’s fundraising competition where employees from all regions submitted names of their favourite charity organizations for a prize draw during the Company’s Heritage Day Function at Fourways, Gauteng.
The King William’s Town Child and Youth Care Centre is Non Profit Organization totally reliant on funding and assistance.
The objectives of the home are amongst others; to provide an early childhood development programme to underprivileged children living in a semi-rural and under resourced community. In addition, the Home provides residential care to babies, children and youth at risk due to behavioural, family and other circumstances; and assists in returning these young people to their communities as soon as possible. The Home further provides support and assistance to child-headed households, with particular emphasis on those rendered vulnerable as a result of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, by deploying community child and youth care workers within identified communities.
The assistance programmes that Sentech is involved in are administered through its Corporate Social Investment programme as it reflectively recognizes its responsibility as a corporate citizen towards its stakeholders and the community within which it operates. The Company is therefore committed to playing a pivotal role in the alleviation of poverty and community adversity relief in its role as a good corporate citizen.
